Oracle vs. Microsoft vs. SAP: Comparing Enterprise AI Strategies
The three biggest enterprise software vendors are all betting on AI agents, but in very different ways. Here's how their approaches compare, and what it means for your platform decisions.
If you run your business on Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics or SAP, AI agents are coming to your systems, whether you planned for them or not. All three vendors now ship agents that act inside finance, supply chain, sales and service processes.
But the strategies behind them differ. Those differences affect your costs, your data architecture and how much freedom you have to mix vendors.
Oracle: agents built into the applications
Oracle embeds its AI agents directly inside Fusion Cloud Applications. The agents run on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and come at no additional cost to Fusion customers. Oracle has said it has no plans to charge for embedded agents.
Customers and partners can build their own agents with AI Agent Studio and find partner-built agents in the Fusion Applications AI Agent Marketplace. Forrester reports Oracle cited 600 prebuilt agents and 32,000 certified developers.
The trade-off: Oracle's agent innovation is focused on Fusion. Customers on E-Business Suite and other on-premises products won't get these agents.
Microsoft: the broadest ecosystem
Microsoft has been rolling out autonomous agents across Dynamics 365 for sales, customer service, field service and finance. It has also launched Agent 365 as a central control plane for managing agents, and Copilot Studio for building agents at enterprise scale.
Microsoft's strength is reach. Its agents connect to Microsoft 365, Teams and Outlook, where much of your workforce already spends its day. For organizations deep in the Microsoft ecosystem, that makes adoption easier.
SAP: data first, then agents
SAP's AI assistant, Joule, was live across 35 SAP solutions as of early 2026. SAP reported over 30 specialized agents and more than 2,500 Joule Skills at that point. Its agent-to-agent protocol is designed to let agents work across SAP and non-SAP systems, and SAP AI Agent Hub provides governance for managing them.
SAP's distinctive bet is on data. It positions Business Data Cloud as the governed data foundation its agents rely on, and it supports zero-copy data sharing with platforms like Databricks. Customers can build custom agents with Joule Studio.

What this means for your business
If you're already on one platform, your vendor's agents are usually the fastest route to value. They understand your data model and processes out of the box. Start there before buying a separate AI tool.
If you're on a legacy version, such as Oracle EBS or SAP ECC, check what AI your current release will actually receive. In most cases the newest agents are reserved for the cloud products, which makes AI a key factor in your migration timing.
If you run more than one platform, pay attention to interoperability. Ask how each vendor's agents share data and hand off tasks across systems, and who governs agents that span them.
Whatever your platform, clean data matters more than any feature list. An agent working from duplicate records or inconsistent masters will make confident mistakes.
